MY MOTHER-IN-LAW & TEAM ENABLEMENT

Today morning my mother in law, Monique, gave a bunch of fava beans to my son — 3 years and 6 months old and asked him to peel them. He couldn’t do it successfully. He couldn’t use his small fingers to put enough pressure on the pods and force the peas to pop out. Then suddenly, Monique did something interesting — she got a small knife and cut a small slid across all the pods and my son was able to get the peas out of the pods comfortably and successfully. He enjoyed his work assignment and was busy taking out the peas for the next 20 minutes.

This reminded me how much we have to be aware of the skillsets of your team members — not all of them are going to be able to do everything. If as a leader you want them all of them to perform at their fullest capacity, you have to set them up for success by providing the right environment and toolset to succeed.

How are you enabling your team?
